Virgin Suicides: Cecilia Lisbon (INFP)

Functional Order: Fi/Ne/Si/Te

Dominant Function: Fi

Cecilia is the strange one, even among her quite peculiar siblings, her interests differ greatly from the rest. She is floating through the world only dressed in an old wedding dress, invokes the Virgin Mary and has crystals lying all around her room. While she is deeply feeling and suffers from isolation and depression, she rarely communicates her thoughts making her seem mysterious and bizarre to the boys in the neighborhood and even her own family. She has strong values like her belief in environmentalism and can‘t see it if others are mistreated. This compassion ultimately turn out to be the deciding factor in her suicide.

Auxilliary Function: Ne

“What we have here is a dreamer, Someone completly out of touch with reality“ says one of the boys after reading through her diary entries. Cecilia makes up fantastic scenarios in her head and often seems like she isn‘t quite there. She is dreamy and imaginative, viewing herself and her sisters as part of one singular entity and don‘t seeing how they are seperate. Her first suicide attempt also shows her knack for symbolic imagery, holding a bloody card in her hands, that shows the Virgin Mary.

Tertiary Function: Si

Cecilia is very reclusive and rarely leave sehr home space. She notices and is deeply affected by the changes of her homes environment, but doesn‘t know how to stop it. Out of all the sisters Cecilia is perhaps the most observing and attentive to small details, noticing things others miss.

Inferior Function: Te

For all her imagination, Cecilia isn‘t able to assert herself like her sister does. Rather than openly rebelling and confronting her parents, she chooses a way of silent resistance that defies her parents without being directly confrontational. She also can be quite judgmental and critical of others, especially if she has been hurt.
