Sense8: Kala Dandekar (INFJ)

Functional Order: Ni/Fe/Ti/Se

Dominant Function: Ni

Kala aims to understand the world, and views religion and science as two separate but not conflicting lenses in which which she can do so. Her love for Ganesha is not for the sake of tradition, but because of what he symbolizes for her personally: a pair of eyes through which she can see a bigger picture. She labelled Wolfgang as a demon after he appeared and ruined her wedding, because to her, he was a corrupting force that constantly reminds her she does not love Rajan. She accepts that there are things beyond her understanding, but welcomes the change being a sensate brought to her, and believes it to be a miracle. She also believes some people are meant for a greater purpose. When she heard her friend was having a third child, she thought it was a waste of brain power (“She has a University degree! She should be solving… global warming!”). She also admitted that when she started her chemistry degree, she believed she was going to achieve something big, like finding a cure for cancer.

Auxiliary Function: Fe

Like Will, she also focuses on others’ feelings when conversing with them. (“He shouldn’t blame himself…”) She often acts as an emotional outlet for the cluster-mates that tend to conceal their feelings, by feeling their grief and crying for them. When Lito was harassed after coming out, she had an argument with Rajan where she ended up mixing her own anger (at him for prying about her virginity) with the anger felt by her cluster-mates, and ends up ranting on about how unaccepting and broken this whole world is, because she couldn’t disentangle her feelings from her cluster’s. During her first wedding she knew she was not in love with Rajan, but wanted to hear someone else (Wolfgang) say it, as a means of validation. As Wolfgang points out, she’s always worrying about what she should and shouldn’t do, instead of what she wants. Her belief in harmony has a limit, however. She thought believers of the same religion shouldn’t fight because they were “all here for the same reason”, but stood up against the extremists when they celebrated their violence against her anti-religion father-in-law because it didn’t align with her beliefs or (what she believed was) Ganesha’s.

Tertiary Function: Ti

She‘s comfortable with her thinking function so long as it doesn’t interfere with what she thought she ought to do. She found an easy way to annihilate the bodyguards protecting Sun’s brother by using the rules of physics and chemistry to light their car on fire. She built an impromptu bomb out of spices and spray cans so that Wolfgang could kill the people working for his uncle and save himself, while chastising Wolfgang for not logically foreseeing that the guards could be wearing bulletproof vests*. She’s quite comfortable with theoretical discussions without pursuing a conclusion, like when she discussed how to her, religion is just as logical and illogical as science. She accepts that there are forces beyond her knowledge, but also remains curious about how things work. When they had an hour to converse with Jonas, she came into the conversation with a prepared a list of questions about unique their genetic makeup.

Inferior Function: Se

At times she acts on her impulses regrets it later, like when she sought out Wolfgang and had sex with him using their connection. She finds the fact that Wolfgang does things so intensely very appealing. She tried to oblige by the rules of society, but eventually admitted her feelings for Wolfgang on a whim, as he was the only person to draw her out of the constraints of all those social rules and let her focus on how attracted she is to him. She’s very nervous and unnerved by physical intimacy: she shut out the intimate visions she saw through her cluster-mates, and sought advice and reassurance before she was to have sex with her husband. She’s rarely first to jumps into action, except when Wolfgang was captured. Then she was the one prompting everyone to move, the one who will stop at nothing to rescue him.
