Kite Runner: Hassan (INFJ)

Aktualisiert: 28. März

Functional Order: Ni/Fe/Si/Te

Dominant Function: Ni

Hassan is very much a dreamer. He is idealistic to a fault willing to see the good, even if they can not see it in himself. Even after being betrayed by his former best friend Amir, he harbors no wish for revenge to him, as he believes that people, who did bad things still have the ability to be good people and this would make himself just as bad. Hassan is also highly intuitive. Even though he hasn‘t enjoyed the same formal education as Amir, he has an intuitive grasp on literature and logical riddles, quickly spotting symbolism and patterns in the world around him. Hassan believes there is a deeper meaning to everything, like his dream about Amir and him and the sea monster, or Amir’s gift of writing. He insists on this insight with little external prove, leaving others to wonder where he got it from, showcasing the introverted nature of his intuition. His excellence at kite running also comes from his ability to intuitively know where the dragons will fall from the sky, based on few physical cues, like the strength of the wind and the movements of the dragon in the sky, making him seem almost prophetic at these moments.

Auxiliary Function: Fe

Hassan is known for being polite and well mannered, always addressing people with the proper honorific. He is open about his feelings and freely shares his joys, hopes and fears with his friend. While he dislikes the social injustices in his country, he accepts his social role as Amir’s servant and tries to fulfill it in the best way he can. This loyality is never shattered and based on the ideals he was told by his father. Hassan is also quick to stand up to protect those he loves, but struggles to do the same for himself, showing a capacity for selflessness to the point of self sacrifice. Hassan is also highly empathetic and quick to read his friends emotions and reacts according to it, always trying to make others feel at ease and comfortable in his presence. Tertiary Function: Ti

Hassan is skilled at pointing out the logical inconsistency in others, like when critiquing the lack of logic in one of Amir’s stories. He is analytical and quick witted, being quite argumentative when threatened by their bullies. Hassan follows his own logical deductions, even if they don‘t make sense to others. When he is accused by Amir of stealing he rather leaves the place with his father than accusing Amir of fraud, as he came to the conclusion that it would be the right way to go separate ways.

Inferior Function: Se

Hassan is capable to physically defend himself under thread, but prefers to resort to more peaceful methods. He enjoys being outdoors, climbing trees with his friends and chasing kites, but also enjoys the more cerebral parts of being. While he seems fine with his fate as a servant, he loves hearing new stories and books to escape to another reality, possessing a great imagination. When under huge stress he disconnects from the world around him and is unable to react to its dangers, which tragically results in his rape by Assed.
