For Heaven‘s Sake: Sister Agnes (INFP)

Functional Order: Fi/Ne/Si/Te

Dominant Function: Fi

Agnes sometimes seems like she lives in her own world. She is peculiar and somewhat childlike in her naivety. While she is gentle and soft spoken, she lives by her own rules and won‘t let others dictate her how to life her life. When she believed she had seen the real Madonna she was determined to turn Kaltenthal into a pilgrimage site, seeing it as her moral obligation to show others the miracle and let them take part in it. She stays true to this conviction against all odds to the annoyance of the other nuns at the convent and the fury of the mother superior. Unlike Hanna she is content with living by her own rules and doesn‘t try to impose her morals on others or force her support on them, preferring to treat others in a friendly, but distant manner. Agnes is also highly sensitive. While she appears calm and dreamy on the outside, she hides a rich inner world and shows a strong relevance for nature and animals. She is prone to empathize with them and even extends her care to a lone wolf, whom she views as just misunderstood. Unlike her sisters, she actually believes Wöller to be a good person, showing her independence from the moral judgment of others, but also her naivety. Her many peculiarities and unique outlook on things make her seem a bit weird to the other members of the convent, but she shares deep bonds with those closest to her (like Felicitas or Hanna).

Auxiliary Function: Ne

Agnes is very curious and open to new ideas. She is quite mystical and believes in fantastic creatures and biblical figures, often interpreting common occurrences in a way that makes them seem almost supernatural to her. Like mistaking a model posing at the forest for the Madonna or believing she had witnessed a murder, when she just saw a man being covered in tomato sauce. While her naivety and superstition are often ridiculed by those around her, Agnes unique view on situations can be quite helpful at times. Agnes is highly imaginative and open to experiment. As the monastery‘s resident cook, she enjoys creating new meals, beginning to substitute the traditionally mean heavy courses with healthy vegetarian food and creating sugar free cookies to help the bishop to better with his diabetes. Agnes also has a habit of seeing the good in others and noticing them for what they could be rather than what they are. Seeing Lotte‘s skill in the political field and even seeing the good in mayor Wöller.

Tertiary Function: Si

Agnes lived quite a sheltered life in the convent. She can‘t imagine living somewhere else and feels fulfilled with her routines and daily chores. As the resident cook’s she attains to her sisters physical needs and is highly health conscious. Occasionally she can also be prone to hypochondria, overtly focusing on imagined symptoms and illnesses. Agnes is also quite observant and often notices little details others miss. Working for Lotte‘s political campaign first seems like a blessing to her, but she quickly gets overwhelmed with all the bureaucratic procedures and administrative activities, as it conflicts with her more airheaded nature. While not as rebellious as Hanna, she is quite open to new ideas and enjoys changing the traditional ways, easily seeing what could be improved in the world around her. This shows that her Si, while quite strong, still serves her Fi/Ne.

Inferior Function: Te

Agnes is gentle and rather passive. She prefers a harmonious non aggressive approach to life and isn‘t particularly assertive in her communication, preferring to go with the flow and life in her own little world. When her ideals gets attacked she can get uncharacteristically stubborn and argumentative, being unyielding in her stance, but also prone to acting irrational and becoming emotional. She often rejects objective data for her own fantasies and intuitions, but can ground herself when needed. When she is angry or stressed, she can become very blunt and critical of those around her, even intimidating the mother superior.
