Penderwicks: Jane Penderwick (ENFP)

Functional Order: Ne/Fi/Te/Si

Dominant Function: Ne

Jane is whimsical and scatterbrained. As the resident writer of the family, she constantly comes up with new ideas for her books and short stories. These stories are often quite bizarre and fantastic, but also incredibly thoughtful and full of metaphorical imagery, especially considering her young age. Jane is also a great storyteller, but often loses the track, as she constantly comes up with new ideas on how to improve the story. Very open to new ideas, Jane introduces various supernatural rituals to her sisters and makes up fantastic stories to entertain those around her, like when inventing the imaginary deity of the fire god, to aid her and her sisters wishes in difficult times. Her strong imagination is easily inspired by the physical world around her, turning daily objects and nature into a fantastic wonderland. The downside is that Jane can seem quite oblivious, unrealistic and out of touch with the real world, as Skye notes more than one time.

Auxiliary Function: Fi

Jane is a romantic at heart. Unlike her more analytical sister Skye, she feels uncomfortable with cold, hard facts and would rather write poetic and romantically tragic love stories, than doing her math homework, which causes her to exchange homework with her sister. While Jane seems careless and calm on the outside, she is very sensitive, harboring a lot of insecurities about her identity. She feels different from others and not beautiful, seeing the only thing worth in her being her beautiful blonde her. Jane can also be occasionally moody and dramatic in her interior monologues and thoughts, showing her sensitive side, which she hides beneath a more banal exterior.

Tertiary Function: Te

While not possessing the temper of her older sister, Jane is among the more confrontational members of her family, firmly standing her ground when she is questioned. While she is normally more inclined to just go with the flow, she can be incredibly determined at times, like when creating her school play, planning every step of it in detail until she achieves perfection.

Inferior Function: Si

Jane is dreamy and somewhat absent minded, harboring a tendency to forget basic necessities, as well as the practical realities of life. Under stress she can become unusually anxious about small details. She also experience occasional unterstes of hypochondria, being overly aware of her body‘s needs, like when she is nervous before her play‘s premiere.
