Functional Axis: Te/Si/Ne/Fi

Dominant Function: Te

Everything in Mrs Appleyard school is perfectly organized, structured and formal. Mrs Appleyard loves being in charge, but can also be incredibly controlling and strict towards her students. Furthermore she has a strong presence and is naturally commanding. She becomes increasingly obsessive and paranoid over the course of the story.

Auxilliary Function: Si

She is a staunch traditionalist seeing no point in unnecessary change. What ones worked will work in the future in her eyes. While focused on the details of school life she hasn‘t Time for anything supernatural like the events at hanging rock. Instead she takes care to offer her students a sense of security, even if it is only that.

Tertiary Function: Ne

Mrs Appleyard wouldn‘t admit it, but she has a certain curiosity about the events at hanging rock, seeing the possibility that there might be more to it than what meets the eye. In the end she even with visits the place herself. She is also good at seeing the potential of her students and using it to the advantage of the school.

Inferior Function: Fi

Mrs Appleyard for all her competence struggles with human relationship. She can be cold and commanding, but rarely merciful towards her students. Still she has moments of sympathy for them and feels a certain shame for her behavior towards Sara. But in the end her supposed duty as the head of the college gets the better of her.
