Functional Order: Ni/Fe/Ti/Se
Dominant Function: Ni
Naoko appears mysterious and ethereal at first. Her Ni is unhealthy and she is feeling disconnected from the world and everyone around her. On her early days with Toru she just wanders around aimlessly never no where she heads, but following her hunches. She is highly abstract in her thoughts and often speaks in analogies, like when telling Toru the story about a mystical fountains, where people get lost when the aren’t careful to better articulate her experiences with mental illness. When it worsens she experiences a loss of words, being no longer able to articulate her thoughts properly as her mind is full of subconscious mages and connections that can‘t be put into words.
Auxiliary Function: Fe
Naoko is polite and friendly with others. She rarely voices her own problems to avoid upsetting others until she reaches her breaking point. It helps her to share her emotions openly with others, like Toru and later a mentor figure in the form of Reiko. On the outside she appears charming and more carefree, but she hides a sensitive and traumatized person behind that mask. She generally dislikes conflict and always talks positive about the people around her, rarely voicing her true feelings as it might would disrupt the harmony.
Tertiary Function: Ti
During her psychotic episodes Naoko behaves incredibly cryptic, but still seems to follow her own logic. She makes ridiculous and cryptic statements that still follow some logical reasoning that only can be understood by herself, puzzling others with it in the process. Naoko is also quite analytical and somewhat sarcastic, but mostly surpresses this more cynical side of her around others to keep the mood.
Inferior Function: Se
Naokos Se is seriously underdeveloped. She seems to life in her own little world and finds sanctuary only in a sanatorium isolated from the world. Her issues come from her inability to accept reality as it is and her tendency to escape from it in her subconscious. Naoko slowoly starts developing her Se during the story, finding comfort in physical activities, like gardening or cooking, ormaking music with Reiko. But this development is later tragically cut short.
