Thomas is a skilled manipulator and schemer, because of his ability to easily read other people’s emotions and their intentions. He has an intuitive grasp on people’s mood and on how his words and actions will influence them. He is future focused and ambitious having no desire to look back and being open to the political changes of that time. His instincts often turn out to be right, like when he predicts the outbreak of the war and prepares to work as a medic before it starts. Thomas is also very secretive and rarely reveals his thought process or conclusions to anyone.
Auxilliary Function: Te
Thomas is very good at planing things in advance and knows how to getanfurther step in his career. He is ruthless in his ambition at times, but also highly motivated to win shown in his working life and even privately like in sports competitions. He is also highly competitive, shown when he rivals with William over Daisy affections just for the sake of proving his superiority. Especially in the beginning he also uses his influence to bully those around him to cover up his own feelings of insecurity, causing him to be highly unpopular among the staff. Only later on does her learn to use his Te healthily, being honest and direct with others and using his leadership skills and organizational talents for good.
Tertiary Function: Fi
While he appears cold and heartless on the outside, Thomas is a highly sensitive and troubled man. He is conscious about his homosexuality, but won‘t deny it as he wants to stay true to him self, being unbothered by the prejudices around this at that time. He is often blunt and even ride about his views, but always stays true to himself no matter what, which also earns him the respect of others, like Baxter or Mrs Hughes. Thomas mostly suffers in silence and is prone to internalize his emotions instead of openly showing them. Still he is capeable of deep loyalty to others like Jimmy or Lady Sybil, showing honest care and compassion fortnehme struggles.
Inferior Function: Se
Thomad cares for a fine presentation, dressing well and moving with elegance. He is attentive of his environment and enjoys physical activity and athletics as a way to relieve himself from stress. Still his naturally instinct is to take a step back and carefully scheme from the background rather than being directly involved in the drama. Furthermore he is often stressed by too much stimuli and can be taken of guard under stress, like when selflessly jumping in to save Jimmy from some thugs only to get beaten himself.
